Peter & Kathryn get MARRIED!

Last weekend, my good friend Peter married the love of his life Kathryn. It was a beautiful (though very hot) day and everything went off without a hitch! The ceremony was sweet and the reception was one heck of a party – lots of dancing, yummy food and good times by all!

Two years ago, I helped Peter pick out the ring and two years later I was working as a 2nd shooter for Judd Sather Photography at Peter’s wedding. I learned a lot shadowing Judd that day. I am impressed by his vision and his ‘calm, cool & collected’ demeanor.

Enjoy a few of images from that day. Stay Tuned for more of Peter & Kathryn’s wedding!

Meet the H Family: John, Tina and Johnathan

What better way to start your Father’s Day off than having a photographer arrive at your house at 820am? John, Tina and Johnathan(2.5 years old) were gracious enough to allow me into their home bright and early on Father’s Day in Hartland, WI. They have a beautiful home that is located in an an area that resembles Northern Wisconsin. It felt like a little getaway going over to their house for photos. It was hard believe we were only 10 minutes from civilization:)

We started the session off with some family portraits on their back deck. Then we had the brilliant idea of taking a picture in their hammock. You’ll notice there are no pictures in the hammock. That’s because as we loaded each family member into the hammock the wear and tear of winter became evident and John went crashing through the hammock to the ground. Everyone was OK and we continued on with the session!

It was a beautiful morning! We enjoyed a walk down their tree-covered street and a stop at a little lake that was a beautiful blue color. We wrapped up the session with a little time in the sandbox for Johnathan.

Enjoy these images from my Father’s Day session with the H Family!

Luke: Little Blue Eyes is 1 Year Old!

Luke holds a special place in my heart. Before I had any clue what I was doing with a camera, Luke’s mom (Sara) invited me to come photograph Luke when he was just 3 weeks old. All I have to say is  – that poor kid! Imagine trying to sleep while someone is constantly changing your clothes and they are not keeping you comfortable at all. Yeah, that was me 1 year ago attempting my first newborn session.

Here we are though – 1 year later and my how things have changed. Luke is already a year old. His gorgeous blue eyes have been a hit on my website, business cards and facebook. And this session was no exception. I met Sara and Luke on a gorgeous day in downtown Janesville. We wandered through the Farmer’s Market, took some shots at the Firehouse Park (Luke’s Daddy is a Firefighter) and then headed down Main Street so we could take a few more pictures. Luke was a trooper and lasted for about 1.5 hours. Pretty good for a little munchkin!

Happy 1 Year Birthday Luke! Love you kid!:)

Monthly BLOG Contest: Because my clients are FABULOUS!

I’ll be the first to admit that when I started in photography, I wanted nothing to do with prints. I was more than happy to send my clients on their merry way with a CD of images from the session.  I didn’t understand the difference between the pro vendors and Walgreens. I just thought they were more expensive versions of the same thing. Oh, HOW WRONG I WAS! I take great pride in what I do.  I deliver only the BEST images to my clients and quite honestly I cringe thinking that one of my gorgeous images might be hanging on someone’s wall on a glossy 8 X 10 from Walgreens or Walmart.

I’ve recently had the pleasure of ordering some prints for several clients. I can’t even begin to tell you HOW gorgeous these prints are! Now I understand WHY professional prints are so much better than what you can get at your local Walgreens or Walmart. And, if you are planning to hang one of my images on your wall for all the world to see, then you definitely SHOULD NOT EVER print those at Walgreens or Walmart.

I tell every one of clients now – if you are ordering large, go through a professional print vendor. If you are planning to hang some 4 X 6 prints on your refrigerator or at your desk at work, be economical and print wherever you like. Be smart about your investment. You invested in me and the high quality I deliver. So when you go to hang something on your wall, take the same care in choosing your prints. You will not regret it and everyone who sees that print will OOOOOH and AHHHHH over it. I guarantee it!

Since my current pricing structure doesn’t enforce print purchasing, I wanted to come up with a way to introduce my clients to the amazing quality of a professional print vendor. (Hint, Hint: Pricing will change on 12/1/2010) And what better way to do it, then to GIVE AWAY a gorgeous 11 X 14 image each month through the end of 2010.

Here’s how it works.

1) Each month, I will select 1 image from each session I photograph.

2) I will post those images on Facebook in an album where people can ‘vote’ on each image by clicking the ‘Like’ link below the image.

3) The image with the most ‘Likes’ at the end of a 1 week period will win an 11 X 14 image of their choice from their session.

Here’s what YOU need to do:

1) Tell all your family and friends to come out to Facebook and VOTE on their favorite image.

2) First, LIKE the Marmalade Skies Photography Fan Page on Facebook!

3) Second, VOTE and share the link with your friends and family!

4) You can vote on as many images as you’d like, but you may not vote or like the same image more than once.

The First contest will begin on Monday July 5th and will end at 8pm CST on Monday July 12th!

If you are interested in a fall family portrait session, engagement session, senior portraits or whatever, contact me today! I am getting married on October 2nd and will have limited availability at the end of Sept, beginning of Oct. Sessions will fill fast, so I am urging people to book in advance! It’s never too early to start thinking about family Christmas cards and portraits to hand out to the grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, etc….

Grayson – Growing like a Weed

Meet Grayson! He is the adorable son of our friends, Don & Krissy. The first time I met Grayson he was an adorable newborn. At 6 months old he is an active guy who’s constantly on the move, loves to try new things (like grass) and enjoys hanging out with his mommy and daddy.

We were lucky the day of Grayson’s session. Everywhere outside of Greendale seemed to have some kind of rain or storm, but we dodged the bad weather. We spent a little time shooting at a park near their home. Everytime we set Grayson in the grass, he would grab handfuls of it and check to see if it was edible or not. The proof is in the pictures! We headed back to Grayson’s house for more shots and an outfit change. This little guy is just too cute for words – big blue eyes, cute little smile and that wonderful baby smell!

This was Grayson when he was a newborn:

And here is Grayson (and Don & Krissy) NOW! Enjoy!:)
